Many people use social media every day without realizing how it can hurt their mental health. We tend to compare ourselves to others based on the pictures we see, but we have to remember those pictures are just a single moment in their life and may not be an accurate depiction of their real life. This can lead people to believe others have perfect lives when, in actuality, they may not.
Social media can also be addictive because we find ourselves scrolling and losing track of time because of how invested we are. The algorithms show us posts based on our interests which keeps us scrolling without noticing how much time we just wasted online.
However, despite the negativity social media can bring, for some, social media can be an escape from reality, especially if you had a long day at work/school or just a rough day in general.
This cycle can affect how we see ourselves and our lives, so it’s important to be aware of how we use social media.
