The Fort Scott Middle and High School Orchestras performed at the middle school for the last time of the school year. The sixth and seventh graders played their sections first, with a group of alumni coming back to play with the sixth graders. Afterwards, the eighth graders played without the aid of a conductor.
Once they were finished, the Chamber Orchestra went on stage to perform their contest piece, “Divertimento”. Then, they were joined by the rest of the high school orchestra. They played a number of pieces including: pieces from The Phantom of the Opera, the Bluey theme song, a jazz piece named “Blue Rhythmico”, a movie score esque piece named “Legends of Glory”, and a classical prelude that featured the basses retuning their instruments to be able to play even lower than normal.
As always, right before the last song of the night, the seniors came to the front of the stage to give gifts to the orchestra accompanist, Jara Martin, and the conductor, Mr. Felt. Martin will be retiring this year, and the entire orchestra wished her goodbye. Mr. Felt received a farewell from the graduating seniors in the form of an Abbey Road inspired hoodie. The seniors and Martin were each given one as well.
This concert marked the end of the 2024-25 FSHS Orchestra season. The next time the musicians will all be together to play again will be in the fall, with new freshmen and new sixth graders.
