The Fort Scott High School Math Club kicked off this year’s season with the first of five MSSU competitions on Oct. 1. The results will not be tallied until the spring when an award ceremony will be held for the highest cumulative scores. However, in between these competitions, the club attends several other events. On Oct. 16, the club spent the day completing tests on Algebra, Geometry, and a random combination of multiple subjects at Emporia State University. For the first time in the history of the competition, Fort Scott was allowed to compete against only other 4A and 3A schools. With an increased chance of success, the Math Club brought home its first medal of the year: a silver medal in the individual geometry test.
