“Ascendancy” (2005), the second studio album by metalcore/thrash/death metal band Trivium. This album is where I think the band Trivium really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, tight sound, and a better production from Audiohammer Studios and Morrisound Recording that really gives the whole band a new sound compared to their first album, Ember to Inferno.
My opinion of the album is best summed up by Allmusic reviewer, Johnny Loftus, who stated on “Ascendancy”, Trivium is a “ridiculously tight quartet, unleashing thrilling dual guitar passages and pummeling kick drum gallops as surely as they do melodic breaks and vicious throat screams.” A couple of my favorite tracks from the album are, “The End of Everything”, a beautiful instrumental, “Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr”, a powerful anthem about oppression, and “Drowned and Torn Asunder”, an energetic ballad about self-improvement.
In closing, “Ascendancy” is one of my favorite Trivium albums and one of my favorite albums overall; if you haven’t listened to this gem before, I highly recommend it.
