With increasing opportunities for young women in sports, girls’ golf has emerged as a compelling choice for those looking to combine athletic achievement with educational aspirations. While other sports dominate headlines, golf offers unique advantages– most notably, an increased chance of earning scholarships. According to the NCAA, hundreds of golf scholarships are available each year for female athletes. Women’s golf teams often struggle to fill their rosters, especially in small Junior Colleges, NAIA Schools, or programs that are new to having the sport. This oftentimes makes it easier to find scholarships for golf, than other sports. Data suggests that the ratio of available scholarships to participants is more favorable in golf compared to sports with larger talent pools. Golf being an individual sport also helps athletes stand out and demonstrate their skills, unlike team sports.
Beyond scholarships, golf teaches valuable life skills such as discipline, focus, and perseverance. These traits are not only essential in the course but also academics and future careers. Additionally, the sport provides lifelong networking opportunities in professional and social settings.
