The Lady Tiger wrestling team is trying to improve the conditions of their practice facilities. The Lady Tigers spoke with the USD 234 school board on January 13th. They discussed how every other sport has the facilities they need while the practice wrestling room at the old middle school lacks some necessary amenities. Since wrestling is a winter sport, the absence of heat has impacted the wrestlers a lot, especially since the sport as a whole is already hard on them due to having long practices and having to cut weight.
Wrestlers present at the board meeting included students Jerri Smith and Kenna Miles, along with parents Jessica Smith, Leslie Godden, and Erin Vann. The problems were not only being brought up at the meeting, but on social media as well. A concerned citizen of Fort Scott posted on social media addressing these problems and sparked a community debate.
The school board proposed a tentative plan for the wrestlers to practice at the new middle school until another solution is found.
