Since 2016, TikTok, the social media app, has been extremely popular among most generations. Many have found community and connections on TikTok. This includes, but is not limited to, small businesses and creators who have made a living through said connection. As of January 10, 2025, the app has been in hot water in the U.S. With so many relying on the app, it begs the question: What will happen to them? It appears this question has been asked amongst many politicians.
Up until last week, TikTok was set to go dark on Jan 18. It has now developed that there may be a push for that ban to be postponed. According to Politico, neither side of the party’s on the ban wants to face the “reckoning” from banning such a widely used app. It has been said that Pres. Donald Trump has invited the chief executive of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew, to attend his inauguration in a position of honor. BBC, Mike Waltz assured that, “We will put measures in place to keep TikTok from going dark.” While it cannot be sure that Trump will be able to stop the ban on the app, there are moves being made.
