As the end of the first semester approaches, seniors all across the school rush to apply to colleges. Many juniors also begin to contemplate where they will find their home after graduation.
When applying to a college, there are many important factors that come into play. After taking a poll on students at FSHS, we noticed a trend with distance. For some, a college farther away is better, but for many, staying close to home is a driving force in choosing a college. Another big part of choosing where to apply is the scholarship options offered. The average cost of a public four year university per year is $11,000 to $25,00 in the United States. And for a private college, the price only gets higher.
For junior Raylee Cowan, some top college choices include Fort Scott Community College, K State, KU, and The University of Saint Mary’s due to scholarship opportunities. For senior Caroline Barnes, options such as Cornell University, Northwestern University, University of Michigan, Colorado State University, and University of Kansas are all appealing. The application process, quantity of essay writing, whether the school will offer a quality education, and whether she will enjoy her time at the institution are all important elements to consider for Caroline when it comes to applying to colleges.
