On November 12th, seven Math Club students and Math Club organizer Morgan Felt traveled to Washburn University for their annual Math Day Contest. Starting off the competition, students competed in a 40-question exam. They then used the scores from each exam to determine the top three from each school, as well as adding up the top three for a team score for each school.
First place for Fort Scott was Sypher Cannon, followed by Joy Self in second place, and Rylan Miller took third place. These students also helped Fort Scott receive 4A runner-up. After this, they set up another competition for the attendees, which was a scavenger hunt. Groups had to go all around campus, finding information that would then be used to solve different problems. While Fort Scott’s group did not finish in the required time (only two schools did), they still enjoyed the time they spent there.
The seven members included seniors Joy Self and Caroline Barnes, and juniors Claire McElroy, Sypher Cannon, Rylan Miller, Ben Phillips, and Khongor Dorjsuren.
