With the growing popularity of the niche sport of racing, should the school consider implementing go-karting as an official sport?
One major benefit of go-karting is that it can improve students’ reaction time, as racing requires quick decision-making. In addition, students could build their own go-karts through a program like “Kansas Electorally,” which would provide hands-on engineering experience.
Mr. Miller said, “When I was a kid, they had the Kansas Electorally.” Electorally programs allow high schools to offer classes or clubs where students design and build go-karts and then compete in races. This type of program could teach valuable engineering skills and support students who are interested in pursuing racing as a hobby or career.
However, the idea becomes less practical when examined more closely. The school has limited funding, and racing can be expensive. Liability is also a significant concern. If a student fails to properly weld a steering rod and it disconnects during a race, the school could be held responsible.
Overall, go-karting could improve reaction time and provide valuable engineering experience. However, it would also require significant funding and come with potential safety risks. While it could be an exciting addition, there are a lot of elements to consider before this could happen.
