Fort Scott High School had a Mental Health Day on Mar.12.
Mental Health Day originated three years ago by FSHS student Sydney Pruitt. Pruitt, along with three other FSHS students, brought this idea for a Mental Health Day to introduce the new club, Zero Reasons Why.
Mental Health Day is a day off from daily responsibilities used to recharge and relax, helping students manage stress, anxiety, or burnout. Counselor Madeline Martin says, “it is a time for students to experience different mental health-themed sessions.”
It is very important to discuss mental health as it can be a very hard problem for teenagers to deal with. Having breakout sessions helps raise awareness of mental health issues and teaches students how to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. It also brings people together and gives students a safe space to discuss mental health.
“Sydney felt it was important to talk about mental health, an active opportunity to pursue/try different self-care style rooms,” Martin shares.
Mental Health Day has become an important way for students to relax, recharge, and talk openly about mental health. Thanks to Sydney Pruitt and Zero Reasons Why, it continues to support students and their well-being and reminds everyone that mental health matters.
