On Jan. 13, 2026, the varsity Scholars Bowl team traveled to Frontenac for a meet. Seniors Sypher Cannon, Daetyn Fowler, and Rylan Miller; junior Raj Gugnani; and freshman Natalie Suddock competed in seven rounds. The team finished with a 5–2 record and advanced to the semifinals, ultimately placing fourth overall.
However, that was not the most exciting part of the night. After the meet, the team stopped at a gas station for snacks. When they returned to the van, they found it was locked with the keys inside.
Several team members attempted to find alternate ways to get into the van, but after multiple unsuccessful tries, chaperone Pam Hutchinson called the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. 15 minutes later, Deputy Sheriff Johnny Moutz arrived to save the day. He got the driver’s door wedged open and unlocked it from the inside.
Finally, half an hour later than expected, the team was able to return home. From that day on, Moutz has been, and will remain, the FSHS Scholars Bowl hero.
